Life of a street child

What is it ?

It's being everyday confronted with hunger, fear, anxiety, violence, drugs, sexual abuse, pedophile, crime; it's suffering from the age of 5 or even younger. Some lives on the street along with their family, getting beaten by their father because they can't bring enough money in. They are often the ones who sustains the family needs.

How do they survive ?

They become beggars; they pickup the trash: some plastic bag that they wash in a filthy polluted water; then once dried in the sun, they sell them for 50 cents a kilo. They sell lottery tickets, some bubble-gum; they would sell anything to get enough to eat a bowl of rice. If they are lucky, they get to polish tourists shoes.

Vietnam population estimated on the 1st of April 2009: 85.800 million people

• 53% of the population is below 30 years old, we are talking about 40 million people here!
• 143'000 orphans have been listed all over Vietnam
• 3600 in Hanoï
• 3900 in Ho Chi Minh city
• 4600 children are working to help their family in Ho Chi Minh
• 20'000 street children in the year 2000 in Ho Chi Minh city according to "Terre Des Hommes" of Ho Chi Minh city

Our goal

• Giving these child the hope to be someday recognized, respected and accepted as individual.
• Developing their skills, their self-respect, their talent, their sense of responsibility, giving them back their dignity.
• Giving them an open hand, love and knowledge through education.

Why a center for the children ?

• To improve the way they live
• To give them a safe and secure place, for eating, sleeping, learning and being accepted.
• So they can become self-sufficient, responsible and capable of becoming individuals recognized by the society and useful to it.
• To develop their own talent, and help them forget the endless suffering of street life, through recreation: karaoke, music, painting, games, drawings, etc.
• So they can have the opportunity to become adults, growing on to a private and professional life, and once they are up to, raising children of their own...

Soirée en France au profit des enfants vietnamiens SDF - 20/04/2010

Une grande intimité, ambiance de fête et de charité a été ressentie lors de la soirée philanthropique au profit des enfants vagabonds du Vietnam, organisée le 17 avril à Cessy, en France, par l'Association SOS enfants de la rue du Vietnam dont Marlyse Michaud est présidente.

Xuong Hùng Dang, ministre conseiller et chargé de consul de la Mission du Vietnam auprès des Nations unies, de l'Organisation mondiale du commerce et des autres Organisations internationales à Genève (Suisse) y participait.

La soirée a réuni 200 hôtes dont certains Vietnamiens d'outre-mer fortement préoccupés par leur pays d'origine, issus des comtés voisins comme Gex, Ferney Voltaire, Genève et Lausanne...

SOS Enfants des rues du Vietnam est une Association humanitaire franco-suisse, qui a été créée le 19 septembre 2001 à Cessy, France, et le 19 février 2002 à Genève, Suisse. Son but est de venir en aide aux enfants sans domicile en améliorant leurs conditions de vie, favoriser leur éducation par un personnel compétent et du matériel adéquat, apporter le bien-être physique, psychologique et l'équilibre par une formation professionnelle et des loisirs, sensibiliser le public face aux problèmes de l'enfance défavorisée...

Interviewé par le correspondant de l'Agence Vietnamienne d'Information à Genève, Marlyse Michaud, fondatrice et présidente de SOS enfants de la rue du Vietnam, a fait savoir : "Depuis 9 ans, nous faisons des dons aux enfants de la rue de Hô Chi Minh-Ville et depuis 2006, également à ceux de l'ethnie Thai dans le Nord-Ouest du Vietnam. Nous travaillons dans la formation, l'enseignement, l'éducation et le développement. L'année dernière, nous avons complètement rénové une école pour 180 enfants de 6 ans à 15 ans à Na Son dans le Nord du Vietnam, pour un coût de 120.000 dollars". Concernant la soirée philanthropique, Mme Michaud a déclaré: "Chaque année, au mois de mars ou d'avril, nous organisons un dîner dansant ou un dîner spectacle pour récolter des fonds en faveur des projets en attente de financement".

Prenant la parole lors de cette soirée, Xuong Hung Dang a remercié sincèrement Marlyse Michaud et son association pour leurs sentiments et supports précieux pour les enfants de la rue en particulier et pour le Vietnam en général.
